1979 Swallowtail Mk1 Golf GTI

Purchased in 2018 by its current owner, this exceptional early Mk1 Golf GTI has undergone a meticulous two-year sympathetic restoration. Since completion, it has been stored in a heated showroom and has covered just 70 miles.

The car was stripped back to a bare shell with all glass removed. The bodywork and underside were carefully restored, with metal replaced where necessary, before being fully primed and repainted to a high standard.

Mechanically, the car has received significant attention. It benefits from new brakes, suspension, fuel tank and fuel lines. The original wheels, including the spare, have been refurbished. The engine has been fully serviced and treated to a top-end rebuild.

Inside, the interior has been fully retrimmed and finished with new carpets throughout. A period-style Blaupunkt stereo has been fitted, maintaining a classic yet usable feel.

This was an extensive, no-expense-spared restoration, and the quality is evident throughout. The car is supplied with a comprehensive photographic record of the recommissioning for its next owner.

This is surely one of the finest early Mk1 Golf GTIs available in the country.
